DTV Antenna Success

Signal from homemade DTV antenna

The homemade DTV antenna has been assembled and installed. Everything seems to be working well. All the local channels tune-in just fine. My TV doesn’t display signal strength, so I don’t really have any way of knowing if the signal is any stronger compared to the rabbit-ears. But it does get rid of the ugly antenna in the living room.

I placed the antenna in the attic above the garage and set-up an A-B switch to allow switching the living room TV between antenna and cable, should we ever subscribe to Comcast again.

Larger washers might be helpful, but other than that, the Make instructions worked out well.

I used the Make instructions as well. Everything works excellent! I had been fed up with the wide variety of antenna that I have tried (and spent over $150 on) throughout the past several months. It was so frustrating having the signal just drop all the time. NOT ANY MORE! Another thing I like about this setup is that you don't need to plug it in to an outlet - does that make it an Energy Star device?!?! If you've been less-than-impressed by broadcast digital reception, try this before you sign a cable contract.
  • Hi,
    Thanks.
Hope it will work for me also.............. : )
  • The design favors UHF signals, but I'm receiving at least one VHF DTV channel without issue, currently. (WSMV according to http://www.antennaweb.org/) I'm fairly close to the source (19miles) so I don't know how this antenna would perform from a longer distance.

Does this antenna also work with VHF signals. I have two soon to be one VHF DTV stations(s) that I often watch and still need to get them.
  • Thanks. I'm still with Comcast for internet. Their uptime is surprisingly good in this area and the speed is excellent as well. I've looked into DSL here, but we have to go through TDS and last time I checked they're still requiring land-line phone service to sign up.

Very nice, Cale. Off-topic question: Who do you use for internet? Did you keep cable, or did you go with naked DSL?
