Toshiba: Right On

July 29th, 2007 | 9:59 pm cdt

Merredith bought a laptop several months ago with XP preinstalled but was eligible for a Vista upgrade DVD to come in the mail at a later date. So the DVD arrived with plenty of warning: “For Toshiba computers only.” I put the disk in my desktop machine and upon autoplay a dialog box shows up saying, “For Toshiba computers only.” Just for the heck of it I ran the setup program direct. Long story short I have Vista installed on my desktop.

Not that Vista is anything worth mentioning, but the lame attempt by Toshiba to keep people from putting that Vista upgrade on anything but Toshiba product was awesome.

Candor Reaches 1000

July 26th, 2007 | 5:24 pm cdt

Yesterday Candor Gallery posted its 1000th image! In the first 3 months Candor gained 500 images, but it took another 12 months to gain the next 500. That’s about 1.5 submissions per day over the last year.

Happenings

July 24th, 2007 | 9:46 pm cdt

This past weekend was my first attempt at a Solo II event put on by the local SCCA chapter. A few photos have been added on to the previous set. I had a multitude of DNFs until finally being straightened out by someone who knew what they were doing.

I switched our domains setup with DreamHost over to a new provider. This was a result of the prolonged intermittent uptime, the lack of professionalism, and the fact that they just really didn’t seem to care about any of it.

Been trying to plug along further with PenceBook. Hopefully we’ll be sending out beta announcements and our ‘killer app’ so to speak, in the coming weeks.

Apple stock took a nice nosedive today. Looks like there’s quite a discrepancy in the reported 500,000-700,000 iPhone units sold that first weekend compared to the 150,000 account activations reported by AT&T in the same time period. This should be an interesting series of events in the next few days as Apple reports their numbers. Not to mention bad news about AT&T’s billing of iPhone customers.

TDOT Securin’ the Prez

July 19th, 2007 | 11:33 am cdt

With the President in town today, it looks like TDOT has turned off the traffic camera system in Nashville. Just in case any of you widget users were curious about the ‘unavailable’ images popping up.

My iPhone Shame

July 18th, 2007 | 10:09 am cdt

Ernie
You haven’t touched one yet…

Do it at lunch… shameful…

Cale
No, I think we’re going to run over to [the Apple Store] at lunch tomorrow

Ernie
Today.

Cale
I know… we’re going to be the last people walking in there to say OMG how awesome! And the Apple people are just going to be like, “Lamers….”
Then they’ll say, “You have to leave now.”
and we’ll be shamed

Ernie
They will. The rest of the crew can assume the shame but you were an Apple owner before the iMac.

Shamed.

Big time.

I shame you.

Cale
I’ve received a call from an iPhone… does that count for anything?

Ernie
No.

Cale
dammit

Ernie
I called myself with an iPhone, when you can say that… half shame lifted.

Ernie
If you buy an iPhone on the spot, the rest of the shame is lifted, otherwise you will have to live with iPhone half shame for the rest of your life.

So Lame

IE Sucks

Should I really have expected anything less? I mean, seriously.

This is bad because it looks like the problem is either the Flickr or Twitter Javascript that IE is getting hung-up on. That means it’s probably something not on my end, which means I’ll probably have to code something that says, “Hey, if some fool is loading this page using IE, don’t display this nice content because IE is nothing but a SAD SACK.”

New Digs

July 16th, 2007 | 10:38 pm cdt

Midnight Cheese finally has a fresh face. The last look held on for almost 2 full years. With the upgrade I’ve managed to shave off 100KB of code and markup. That tidbit might be my favorite part of the refresh!

There are a couple areas that still need some style applied. (The comments for example.) I also haven’t done any IE testing yet, so I’m sure there will be some CSS tweaking in order to make the dark side conform.

Here are some screens comparing stats between old(242KB) and new(142KB).

Old Stats
