Candor Gallery

Update 04.13.06: Since Candor launched about a week and a half ago I’ve had over 150 different works submitted and placed into rotation, over 6,000 people download the widget, and over 56,000 views of the submitted artwork. As a result, there’s some really really good work being displayed on a lot of desktops. And with such a great start I just want to thank everyone for their contributions. It’s already much more successful than I imagined. Thanks again for the support, and please keep the artwork coming!

Those of you looking for the Candor Gallery page can go here.

And we all know I have plenty of time to think ;)
  • You know the elephant art craze that happened not too long ago? I think the world is ready for piggy art. ;) Something to think about. ;)

Stop being so damn talented Cale...you're making the rest of us fools look bad. BTW...I bet I could dig up some artwork for you. bwahahah;)
  • Thanks, mrk. There's no real limit to the number of submissions... But I'd consider maybe limiting it to your top few works.

I'm trying to put work into the database as they come in, but I work during the day, so most entries will end up being put in during the evening.

    Thanks for asking.

I really like this Candor widget. Is there a limit to the number of submissions one can make? what is the turn around rate from submitting material to viewing through the widget? I was just curious. anyways. congrats and thanks for for this widget. nice piece of work you have here
  • Nah, I'm more of an armchair critic when art is concerned :) The big thing that fascinates me about art is the use of the media, and how it impacts the making of the piece (I have too much engineer in me). I also lost all visual art skills when I decided to become a musician. I wish I could come up with some of the stuff you and Ernie do.

I can understand making the art the main focus of the widget, and that is accomplished very well. I was just thinking that a slightly darker shade of gray would make the information not blend into the widget background as much and not take away from the main focus. Just a usability enhancement, nothing more.
  • Thanks, Jim. I think you should submit something!

I kind of kept the font color subdued to make the artwork be the focus. But I can certainly see how you'd have to pay a little closer attention to read it. The media type is a good idea. I'll have to explore both of those suggestions for v2.

It will allow you to pull a new image every 5 minutes. I'll probably lessen that if it ends up not generating much traffic. :)
  • ooh, and to be even more pushy and ungrateful ... How about adding information on the media of the work?
  • That's pretty sweet, Cale. Is there any possibility of upping the contrast between the font colors and the background? It is kind of hard to see on my screen, and I have to do more than a glance to see the title and artist. I could just be losing my vision as I get older.

What is the time period between art updates for the widget?
