Rest in Peace Belki the Dog

November 9th, 2009 | 10:26 pm cdt

Belki

Our dog Belki passed away this weekend. She was a good dog. Her favorite thing to do was chase motorcycles. From a distance she could always tell the difference between a motorcycle engine and a loud truck. Belki will be missed.

Funky Apple Magic Mouse Panel Design

November 3rd, 2009 | 1:27 pm cdt

I was reading the Ars review of the Magic Mouse and came across a screenshot of the new mouse’s control panel. This is one of the few interface layouts from Apple that seemed to have almost zero thought put behind the design. Here’s a little before and after of what I thought it should look like. Lots of simplification can happen here. Removing the separate checkmarks and drop-downs and replacing them with just drop-down menus really takes the business away from this panel. It’s also more in line with the design of the Mighty Mouse and Spaces panels.

NaNoDrawMo 2009

November 2nd, 2009 | 9:03 pm cdt

NaNoDrawMo requires its participants to create 50 drawings in 30 days. I’ve had a little empty sketchbook sitting around for some time now that I thought would be perfect for this exercise. I’m doing quicker sketches rather than finished drawings which seems to fit better in the smaller space of the book.

I started with some renderings of objects but have started to move into faces and characters. More to come!

Fall Color at Savage Gulf

November 1st, 2009 | 9:29 pm cdt

My Dad and I went to Savage Gulf for some last minute fall foliage shots this weekend. The color was excellent, but unfortunately the height of the bluffs doesn’t come through the photos very well. Savage Gulf is one of the more beautiful Tennessee parks I’ve been to. We hiked from Stone Door almost to the bottom of the canyon, but had to turn back due to time. Definitely want to get back to Savage Gulf soon.
