Samsung Upstage & AppleTV Hacks

March 26th, 2007 | 5:02 pm cdt

A flip button? Are you serious? It looks like they literally glued a phone and an MP3 player together. There’s zero cohesiveness to this thing. Could the extended battery be any more awkward? The video associated with the Samsung Upstage review on CNET is worth looking at. I’m not sure what they based that 8 of 10 review on, however.

Already tons of hacks available with the AppleTV. From using it as a server to getting it to play more codecs, you can also upgrade the HD to something much larger.

Posters and Cassettes

March 23rd, 2007 | 10:20 pm cdt

This evening Merredith and I took a look at the posters on display at the Sound and Print show at MTSU. Every poster was just exceptional. We purchased a print from The Decoder Ring Design Concern as well as from Strawberryluna who just happens to be showing some of her work on Candor Gallery.

On the way out we cut through the University Center to get back to the car, and Forget Cassettes just happens to be playing with a couple other bands in what I assume is a lecture hall. So as we’re passing a side door to leave, FC is about 10 feet to our right just playing away.

All this at MTSU, even. Very surreal.

Quick Update

March 21st, 2007 | 9:40 am cdt

Just a few things that have been standing out the last week or two.

Twitter just keeps building and building. TwitterVision pretty much sums it all up.

Jimmy just pointed me toward UbuntuStudio due in April. This is something that is probably great for enthusiasts and people who have never touched an image, audio or video manipulation application. But for anyone who is familiar with programs like Photoshop, After Effects or any of the pro video apps that Avid or Apple offer, this is not going to be usable. 10 minutes with the Gimp is enough to say, “no thanks.”

AppleTV is now shipping. You should be able to check it out at your local Apple Store this weekend. This has the potential to be iPod big.

TapeOnline Blog

March 15th, 2007 | 7:54 pm cdt

We just recently launched the TapeOnline Blog with the hopes of keeping customers informed and providing them with another means of giving feedback. I’ll be contributing frequently, so look for a little crossposting action every so often.

I’ve picked up Twitter. Even added a badge to my site. I really like the idea of basically having a continuous ‘away message’ type thing happening. It feels like it might end up being a lot to keep up with, however. We’ll see how things go.

Your Speed

March 9th, 2007 | 10:15 pm cdt

We’ve recently had some trouble with people speeding down our street. This week this device showed up in our front yard. Amazingly it actually slows people down.

Ford Ka

March 2nd, 2007 | 10:21 pm cdt

On the way to work this morning I ended up behind a Ford Ka. They’re not sold in the U.S., so it was surprising to see a car I didn’t recognize and then once I got close enough, have it turn out to be a Ford. They’re definitely in the mini class… very much like a Geo Metro. There were two people in the car, so I didn’t even think to look and see what side the steering wheel was on.
